Step
1
Avoid getting caught out
Always check the Letting Agents independent reviews with a verified independent reference agency like Trust Pilot or Reevoo as all reviews are from genuine customers. Always view a property prior to handing over a reservation fee.
Step
2
Finding a trustworthy letting agent
Always look out for recognition that the Letting Agent is a member of an industry redress scheme. Always read your Tenancy Agreement and ask if it can be emailed or posted to you for review at your leisure.
Step
3
Looking for properties to let
Look at several local Specialist Letting Agents and not Estate Agents that have a Letting Agents department. They are invariably only in Lettings because property sales have decreased. They normally offer a bad service, over charge, never return calls and are slow or non-existent at dealing with any maintenance issues. We recommend that you look on our website, Rightmove and Zoopla for quality properties. Make sure you always sign up for instant new property alerts to ensure you get to hear about properties as soon as they become available. Phoning us at Farefield could also mean you get to view a property that hasn’t even been advertised yet – you should act fast to secure the best properties on the market.
Step
4
Moving in
When you get the keys, always make sure a full photographic inventory is taken on the day you move in and ask for a copy to be emailed or posted to you for reference. This will help to protect you and your deposit should there be any discrepancies when you move out, acting as proof that they weren’t caused by you. After you’ve moved in, your landlord or Letting Agent has a legal obligation to add your deposit to an accredited deposit scheme within 30 days. Make sure they have done this and have sent you a certificate of validation, as it is illegal for them not to do so.
